Karwar: As many as 12 candidates from 6 constituencies of Uttar-Kannada district withdrew nominations from contesting on May 12 Karnataka assembly polls, leaving 46 participants in the field to contest.
According to the press release issued by the district election commission, around 58 candidates were left to contest elections after scrutinising nomination papers on 25th April. Around 12 candidates from various constituencies of the district withdrew nomination on the last day of withdrawing papers on 27th April, which as a result 46 candidates are now left to contest.
Finally, there are all 6 candidates from BJP and Congress contesting in the district, while 5 from JDS, 1 from CPI, 1 from NCP, and 27 from various non-registered state parties and independent candidates. There are 5 women candidates in the district, while 41 are men. The Kumta-Honnavar constituency in the district carries 12 candidates which is the maximum in the district, while constituencies of Bhatkal, Sirsi, and Karwar has 6 candidates in each, which is comparatively less in the district. Four including JD(S) candidate from Bhatkal has withdrawn the nominations, 3 candidates from Yellapur too has withdrawn the nomination papers.
