Kumta: A tourist from Bengaluru drowned while his friend was rescued by lifeguard at Kudle beach near Gokarna on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Satyanarayan (42), an employee of IBM in Bengaluru.

According to the sources, Sathyanarayan had come to the temple town, on Saturday morning, along with his friend Venkatesh Ashwath Narayan. Both of them ventured into the Arabian sea to take a swim.

However, as there was high tide, the two were dragged into the sea. While Sathyanarayan drowned, a foreigner, swimming in high tide, saved Venkatesh.

Sathyanarayan is survived by a wife and a son. Police are trying to gather more information about the victim and have informed Bengaluru police about the incident.

A case stands registered in Gokarna police station.
