Kumta: A team of lecturers seized more than 200 mobile phones from the students who had carried them into the classes without prior permission at Hanumanth Benne Nellikeri Government Pre-University College in the town on Friday.

Parents of all the students who had carried mobile phones into the classes were called to the college and interactions were held with them. Mobile phones were returned to the students after warning them not to use them during class hours.

Principal Satish Naik said, there were complaints that students were using the phones during the classes. Even after several warnings, they had not stopped using them. Hence, a team of lecturers checked all the bags in the commerce section and found more than 200 mobiles. 

He added that students have been allowed to keep their mobile phones with them in the college, as many of them come from far away places.
