Minister Ramanath Rai to inaugurate Kuveshi canopy walk on Feb 18 in Dandeli

Karwar: India's first canopy walk will be thrown open to public on February 18 at 3 pm at Kuveshi, near Dandeli.

Installed at a height of 30 ft above ground in Kuveshi area, near Castle Rock of Uttara Kannada, the 240 metre walkway will provide visitors a bird's eye view of the verdant undulating landscape.

The canopy walk project has been developed by Karnataka Forest Department, in association with State Tourism Department and Kali Tiger Reserve Area.

Mysuru-based Bharat and Alim have constructed the canopy walk using locally available wood materials.

Forest Minister Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the canopy walk in the presence of District In-charge Minister R V Deshpande, Union Minister Anant Kumar Hegde and Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge.

Canopy walkways, also called canopy walks, provide pedestrian access to the forest canopy. These walkways consist of bridges between trees in the canopy of a forest linked up with platforms inside or around the trees, from where one can savour the verdant sight of forest.

A total of Rs. 84 lakh has been spent for the construction of canopy walk at Kuveshi.

From Dandeli, Kuveshi is 65 km. From Castle Rock it is 15 km journey and from Kunagini check post it is 10 km. From Hubballi it is 125 km passing through Haliyal. From Karwar it is 145 km via Joida. From Belagavi it takes 85 km via Ramnagar to reach Kuveshi.
