Siddapur: A lion tailed macaque (LTM) was electrocuted at Kudegodu near Dodmane village in Siddapur taluk on Thursday evening. It is said that while jumping from one tree to another tree, it came in contact with a live wire and died on the spot. Insulated power cables are drawn in Honnavar division forest area where LTMs are found, but the work has not been taken in Sirsi division. Power cables have been posing a threat to this endangered species. LTMs are found in Western Ghats. Apart from Karnataka, they are found only in Kerala and Tamil Nadu forests. For the conservation of LTMs, hundreds of acres evergreen forests have been notified in Uttara Kannada district
