Mangaluru: The special Lokayukta court awarded sentence and fine to the secretary of panchayat and a retired panchayat development officer (PDO) after they were found guilty of collecting bribe here on 1st February, Thursday.
The sentence was awarded on Thursday by the third district sessions court (also known as the special Lokayukta court) after they found out that while issuing house number levelled against Savitri, the former PDO of Konaje and secretary Abubakker, they had allegedly received bribe which was proven at the court.
According to sources, Savitri and Abubaker had sought bribe from a lady named Sarika on 28th march 2012. While they were accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 3000, they were trapped by the Lokayukta police.
The duo has been awarded one year of simple imprisonment U/S 7 and 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act and a fine of Rs. 5000 each. In case, they do not pay the fine, an additional jail term of 3 months will be added to their sentence.
