Bhatkal: A lady police constable, who was riding a scooty was killed on the spot after being hit by a speeding truck on Murdeshwar NH-66 in the taluk. The incident happened on 17th November, Friday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Mradula Acharya, aged 37, serving as a police constable in the Murdeshwar police station.

Sources from Murdeshwar informed that the incident took place when Mradula Acharya, who was crossing the highway while coming from the Murdeshwar gate was crushed by a speeding truck, came underneath the wheels and collapsed on the spot. The impact of the collision was such that she received deadly injuries over her head even though she was wearing a helmet.

It is learnt that she hailed from Kundapur. Initially, she was serving as constable in Bhatkal town police station, after which she was transferred to the Murdeshwar police station around six months earlier. Her husband is also a police constable in Murdeshwar police station.

Mradula is survived by her two children.

The body was shifted to Bhatkal govt hospital for post mortem and a case has been registered in Murdeshwar police station.
