Karwar: In a bizarre incident, a 40 years old man tried to attempt suicide along with a 1-year-old kid by jumping into a Kali river near Sadashivgad village in the taluk on Tuesday evening, March 27.

The victim, Shankar Banjar, is the person who jumped in the river to end life along with the baby named Tanush. Both are said to be the residents of Hangal taluk in Haveri district. 

However, the local fishermen who noticed them drowning soon rushed for their rescue and were successful in protecting the duo from getting drowned. They were then rushed to the district hospital for the treatments and are reported as out of danger.

It is learned that Shankar was working as a house building labor in Karwar. The family conflict is believed to be the reason behind taking this extreme step.

A case has been registered in Chittakul police station and investigations are on.
