Kumta: An incident of a man getting cheated of Rs. 18 lakhs have been reported in Kumta after the purchase of low quality wet cashew nuts from a Mangaluru based dealer. The victim is Mukund Kamat, owner of Shantadurga cashew nuts industry, Kumta.
According to the sources, it is reported that a cashew nut businessman from Mangaluru, K. Narayan had agreed to a contract in May 2016 to supply wet cashew nuts to Shantadurga cashew nut industry in Kumta. A cash amount of 60 lakhs rupees was also taken as an advance payment in this regard. However, Narayan supplied cashew nuts worth 45 lakhs in September 2017. Unfortunately, the twist in the deal was observed when Mukund alleged that he has been provided with low-quality cashews and has been cheated with 18 lakh rupees. Demanding justice, Mukund filed a case in Kumta police station in this regard.
PSI Sampatkumar is handling the case and further investigations are being conducted.
