Beltangady: A person was allegedly roughed up by locals after he misbehaved with the MLA K Vasanth Bangera on 5th March, Monday.
The man beaten up was identified as Venkappa Kotian, a resident of Indabettu. Venkappa was a party worker and had come to speak to the MLA about new pump set.
The MLA had a strange encounter on Monday, when a drunken man came to him to discuss an issue. However, the man soon started to speak ill of a party worker and repeatedly tried to intervene as the MLA got occupied with some important issues.
It is learnt that the MLA then sent him out in anguish but he continued with his misdemeanour even after Vasanth assured him that his problem would be dealt with. The man was then asked to come the next day as he was drunk and not in a clear state of mind.
This in turn angered him and he started to hurl abuses and make threats at the MLA and when the MLA proceeded towards his house, he intercepted him. The people around the place gathered and tried to calm him down to which he reacted by assaulting them.
Infuriated by this behaviour, the people decided to teach him a lesson and roughed him up. However, the MLA condemned this stating that the person would have spoken ill in a drunken state.
Moreover, the MLA refused to file a police case regarding the matter.
