Puttur: An interim bail has been granted to the Secretary of Hindu Jagaran Vedike (HJV), Jagadish Karanth on 30th September, Saturday.

The HJV activist Jagadish had been arrested on Friday from Bengaluru airport after a Suo motu case was registered against him on 21st September based upon a video footage of his speech.

The speech which was made on 15th September is said to have been communally provocative against inspector of police station here. He has been accused of threatening a government servant, inciting enmity between religions, deriding of religion, slanderous remarks against religion etc.

Hence, he had been booked under IPC section 153 which is a non-bailable offence. However, following the arrest, BJP and Sangh Parivar held protests opposing the arrest here on the night of Friday.

BJP leaders Satyajith Suratkal, BJP district president Sanjeeva Matandur, Mandala president Chanila Thimmappa Shetty, municipal council president Jeevan Dajain, Sangh Parivar leaders Arun Kumar Puthila and others were present during the protest.

Therefore, conditional bail was granted after he was produced before a magistrate here in the early hours of 30th September, Saturday.
