Mangaluru: The District Rajyotsava Awards were presented to achievers of various fields on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava at Nehru Maidan here on Wednesday.
The award winners were Dr Nanda kishore B (medicine), Y Krishna Salian (Agriculture), Keshav Kundar (Journalism), Bengre Vijay Suvarna (Kabaddi), Kotiparava Madavu(Bhootaradhane), Sridhara Holla (dance), Kalayi Ishwara Poojary (traditional medication), KRNath (social work), Deviprasad (journalism), K Devdas Bhandary (Social Work), S M Rashid (Education), Ramakrishna Kudroli (Body building), BKMonappa Acharya (Sculpture), Ashok Bhat N (Yakshagana) and Vinni Fernandes (film).
Organizations Yuvavahini, Akhila Bharatha Mundala YuvaVedike, Adarsha Friends Association, Ansarul Muslimeen Association and Torpedoes Sports Club were also felicitated with the Rajyotsava Award.
Student achievers in various fields were felicitated by the Department of Kannada and Culture on the occasion (Asadharana Pratibha Puraskara).
They are Ananya Aithal and Remona Ivet Pereira (cultural), Gautham Bhat P Gand Vijeth Ullal(music), Sriyana S Mallya and SR Rachana Rao (sports), Mokshit Suresh and M Siri Subhash (art), Shyam Prasad H P(Innovation).
Cash prizes, instituted by Karnataka Rajya Shikshakara Kalyana Nidhi, were also awarded to the students who scored highest marks in the SSLC examinations held in April.
The meritorious students are Poornananda S, Jayani R Nath, Noel D’Costa, Ashelin Pinto, Indulekha V A, Aishwayra K G, Akash M Nayari, Deeksha M N, Lakshmishwar N, Amar Prakash Patil andAmitaPai.
Applicant disqualified
Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli, who hadapplied for theRajyotsava Award under Yakshagana, was disqualified by the district administration from the list of awardees after it was found that he had received the award in 2006 for his contribution to field of education and social work. This year, he had applied to the award for the second time from a different category - Yakshagana. The initial list of awardees was revised on Tuesday evening, by deleting Kukkuvalli’s name.
