Mangaluru: An international level power lifter was seriously injured along with three others in an tragic accident between a bus and a crane which occurred here near Bykampady on Saturday.

The injured have been identified as Vishwanath Bhaskar (27yrs) from Kundapur, Maneesh, Varun, and Manjunath. Vishwanath is an international level power lifter hailing from Ganiga, Kundapur.

According to sources, the passengers were travelling to Udupi on the bus when the accident occurred. When the bus was passing through Bykmapady, a crane suddenly entered the highway and its hook got stuck into the bus. The crane dragged the bus along with it for some distance.

Due to this, the passengers, occupying the right side window seats were severely injured. Vishwanath, who had bagged gold medal in Commonwealth Games held in Africa, suffered grave injuries to his ears and head.

The injured were admitted to the A J Hospital for treatment and a case regarding the accident was registered at Suratkal Traffic police station.
