Mangaluru: A major tragedy was averted as the passengers travelling on a private city bus had a miraculous escape after their bus lost control and rammed into the old bridge at Kulur on 15th January, Monday.

According to sources, the bus travelling from Suratkal to Mangaluru went over a pothole, while the driver was trying to overtake another vehicle near Kulur Bridge. However, the main blade of the bus snapped and the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The bus then dashed through the bridge wall and almost half of the body of the bus had moved out of the bridge before the bus stopped perilously close to the edge. The passengers travelling on the bus had a providential escape and only one of them suffered minor injury for which she was rushed to the hospital.

The bus was later lifted from the spot using a crane by the police and fire service personnel. Traffic was affected on the National Highway for about 45 minutes following the accident.
