The accused Irshad (23yrs), Imran (21yrs) and Hussain (23yrs) were absolved of all charges by court on Saturday.

Rajesh, a resident of Bantwal was hacked to death by a gang near an auto rickshaw stand in Benjanapadavu in March 2014. At the time of his murder, Rajesh had just come out on bail after he had been accused in the murder of Iqbal.

There were no eyewitnesses as the crime was committed during the early hours of morning. The police were unable to find the attackers who killed Rajesh and due to this, a string of protests were conducted.

Finally, the government agreed to hand over the case to the CoD. Thereafter, the accused were arrested on 31st March, 2014 by the Bantwal police and a charge sheet was filed,

Lawyer Shashiraj Kavoor was appointed as the defence counsel for the three youngsters. Imran was a juvenile at the time of arrest. It may be mentioned here that some organizations like the DYFI had staged protests claiming that innocents had been arrested in the case.

After around four years, the court finally declared the accused as innocents as the prosecution failed to establish the guilt.
