Mangaluru: Case booked against a photojournalist for posting religiously defamatory post on WhatsApp

Mangaluru: A complaint was filed at Bantawal town police station against a photojournalist of a Kannada newspaper in the city accusing him of posting odious post against a religion in a WhatsApp group.

The accused was booked by the Bantawal town police on 16th January, Tuesday based upon the complaint filed by the municipal councillor of Bantwal Muneesh Ali on Monday.

According to the complaint filed by Ali, the accused had posted defamatory material against Islam in a WhatsApp group ‘Media and Rai’ which was created for co-ordination between media and district in-charge minister Ramanatha Rai.

Ali claimed that the post defamed Islam as a religion and had the potential of disturbing peace in the society. The police who filed the FIR went on for search of the accused on Wednesday to his residence at Padil, but were unable to locate him.

A case stands registered at Bantawal town police station and investigations are being conducted to nab the accused.
