Mangaluru: Two raids were conducted by the police acting up against illegal sand and around 3,000 tons of sand worth Rs. 27 lakh has been seized in two days.
The operation was started acting on a tip-off stating that stocks of illegal sand were stored at Joseph Nagar in Permannur village.
The Ullal station police inspector, Gopikrishna K R and staff raided the spot on 27th January, Saturday and confiscated around 1000 tons of illegal sand. Police sub-inspector,Vinayak Toragal, and officials of mines and geology department were also involved with this operation.
Earlier on 26th January, Friday, a police team led by the police inspector, Gopakrishna K R raided illegal stock of sand near Ambody House in Kallapu Patla and seized around 2000 tons of illegal sand.
The police have also requested the general public to provide information if they find any illegal stocks of sand.
