Mangaluru: Raids conducted on illegal sand extraction units, over 800 loads of sand seized

Mangaluru: Acting on a tip off, a squad led by the Dakshina Kannada DC Sasikanth Senthill conducted several raids  in the taluk and seized over 800 truckloads of sand, dredging machine, and a truck.

The raids were conducted at places including Moodushedde, Padushedde, Manjalpade and Jappinamogaru as the DC had received information that illegal docks were built at some spots within the limits of Coastal Regulatory Zone.

According to the press release, the raid began on 13th January, Saturday and continued till Monday evening. During the raid, around five sand extraction units were detected and sealed in Mangaluru taluk.

The raid team consisted of the tahsildar Guruprasad, AC Renuka Prasad, Senior geologists Niranjan and Murthy and officer from National Highways Authority of India, Mescom, Kavoor and Pandeshwar police stations.
