Mangaluru: A roofing contractor died of electrocution after an iron rod he was carrying came into contact with a high-tension power line at Krishnapura 6th Block in Suratkal on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Bhaskar, a resident of the area near Chakravarthy Stadium in Krishnapura.

According to preliminary information, Bhaskar was engaged in constructing a sheet roof at a residential complex in Krishnapura 6th Block. He was reportedly taking measurements using an iron rod when the accident occurred.

While turning around with the rod under his arm, it came into contact with a nearby high-tension electricity wire. He suffered a severe electric shock and died on the spot, eyewitnesses said.

Surathkal police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Based on a complaint lodged by Bhaskar’s son, police have registered a case and initiated further legal proceedings.

The exact circumstances leading to the accident are being ascertained.
