Mangalulru: A man presently in judicial custody in connection with the alleged diversion of Rs 55 crore was tortured by fellow inmates who were able to extort an amount of Rs. 15 lakhs from his parents.
The victim was identified as Sirin Madhusudan, of the Kulai Branch of the Indian Overseas Bankwho was in jail for diversion of Rs. 55 crores belonging to the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd.
According to the sources, around eight prisoners including Tilak, Mithun, Shivu, Nikhil and Charan who were lodged in the same cell with Sirin at the district prison inflicted physical and mental torture on him demanding that he must share the siphoned amount with them.
However, Madhusudan refused and it got worse. Finally, through frequent ragging they made him call his parents and ask them to bring the said amount. It is learnt that the amount of Rs. 5 lakh was paid by Sirin’s parents in three instalments.
A extortion case has been filed regading the case by Madhusudan’s parents at Barke police station.
