Mangaluru: A youth was arrested by the police on 13th January, Saturday based upon the complaint filed against him regarding allegedly circulating the picture of a girl on social media and threatening a youth from another community.
The accused Shri Hari (22 yrs) alias Harish Devadiga was arrested by Mangaluru South police near Pumpwell. He is a resident of Kakanje, Belthangdi taluk in Dakshina Kannada district.
A complaint had been filed on 9th January by Madhuri Bolar, the girl whose photo was being circulated on social media by the accused. The post which Madhuri says is around 1 year old shows her in the company of her male fellow SFI members Hamza Suhas Adiga and Ganesh Bolar.
In the message circulated along with the photo, the accused had specifically pointed out Hamza and said that he must be taught a lesson for mingling with a girl of their community. Seeing that her picture was being circulated with threatening messages, Madhuri lodged a complaint at the police station.
Police have seized the mobile used to send the threat messages and produced him in court. The accused has been remanded judicial custody. Police have added that there are other suspects who are yet to be arrested in connection with the case.
