Mangaluru: The residents of the fourth ward of Kotekar Town Panchayat has warned of boycotting the election if the authorities fail to solve the row over the dumping of garbage.

The election in the Kotekar Town Panchayat will be held on December 27.

The residents said that the dumping of all the waste collected from 17 wards in the Town Panchayat in the fourth ward has been causing inconvenience to them.

The stray dog menace has also increased in the ward. The Town Panchayat officer should ensure that the dumped waste is cleared immediately, said Taluk Panchayat former member Surekha Chandrahas.

The residents said that in spite of an appeal to authorities on the inconveniences faced by the residents, the officials have failed to solve the row.

The residents have therefore decided to boycott the polls.

Resident Ravishankar Kini sought to know why the solid waste management cess is collected by the Town Panchayat if it is dumping the waste by the side of the road.

Though three waste management units were set up, none are functioning properly, he added.
