Mangaluru: Simple Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, Fit India Freedom Run inaugurated

Mangaluru:  Gandhi Jayanti was observed in a simple manner by the district administration and the Bharath Seva Dal at the Gandhi Park on Saturday.

After garlanding the statue of Gandhiji, Minister for Fisheries, Port and Inland Water Transport S Angara said that the world remembers Gandhiji. “We have to inculcate the teachings of Gandhiji in our life. The dream of Gandhiji should be fulfilled by bringing in reforms in the country. To fulfill the dream of Gandhiji, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given emphasis on cleanliness in the country,” the minister said.

“All of us should keep our surroundings clean and maintain cleanliness across the country. Cleanliness drive is not possible only through government schemes. People should cooperate,” he said. Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V, MLC Harish Kumar and others were present.

As a part of “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsava”, the Nehru Yuva Kendra had organised Fit India Freedom Run 2.0 in Mangaluru on Saturday. The freedom run was flagged off at the Mangala Stadium and passed through Ballalbagh, PVS Circle, Navabharath Circle, KS Rao Road, Wenlock Hospital and Hampankatta before ending at the Town Hall. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and others took part in the flagging off ceremony.
