Measures being taken to solve port-related issues in Uttara Kannada district: Shivaram Hebbar

Karwar: Labour Minister Shivaram Hebbar stated that measures are being taken to solve the problems pertaining to the construction of ports that have been sanctioned to the district.

In the coming days, a meeting of Fisheries, Port, & Inland Transport minister and the officials concerned will be held at the district headquarters in this regard, he added.

He noted this while speaking during a meeting held on fisheries, port and inland transport issues in Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada districts under the leadership of Minister S Angara in Bengaluru.

Hebbar brought the issues related to the Sagarmala Project which aims at promoting port-led direct and indirect development and to provide infrastructure to transport goods to and from ports quickly, efficiently, and cost-effectively, to the notice of the meeting.

Replying to this, Principal Secretary for Ports Infrastructure and Inland water Transport Kapil Mohan said, measures have been taken to solve the problems related to the Sagarmala project in Karwar.

Compensation

Minister Hebbar also briefed about the newly sanctioned ports in Uttara Kannada district and put forth the problems of local fishermen. Stating that compensation has not been released for the reconstruction of areas affected by the Tauktae cyclone, Hebbar said, along with Minister Angara, he would visit the chief minister to hold discussions in this regard.

MLAs Dinakar Shetty and Sunil Naik, MLAs from Dakshina Kannada district, MLCs, and officials were present on the occasion.
