Honnavar: In a shocking incident, depressed twin sisters ended their lives by consuming poison at their home in Idagunji in the taluk on Monday. The reason suspected behind taking this extreme step is mental distress and poverty.

The twin sisters who died of consuming poison have been identified as Megha Shri Subray Naik (22) and Bhagya Shri Subray Naik (22). The incident came to light when locals saw the two sisters struggling after consuming poison in the cashew garden behind their house. After initial treatment at the Manki Government Hospital, they were shifted to the Government Hospital in Honnavar.  Later they were taken to Civil Hospital in Karwar for further treatment, but due to ineffective treatment, the twin sisters died on Tuesday.

Sources revealed that the twin sisters were born with a coma and had a tendency to get angry over small issues which kept both of them mentally disturbed. It is learned that both of them had tried to commit suicide twice before and were suffering from mental anguish over the same. On Monday, when no one was at home, the two committed suicide by consuming poison.
