Kumta: MLA Dinakar shetty said small machinery like mini power tiller are useful for farmers in the coastal region who have small land holding.

Addressing the comprehensive agriculture campaign at Agriculture Department office here, on Friday, he said government subsidy for farmers to get agriculture machinery is helping them to effectively face problems of shortage of labours.

One should have emotional relationship with farming. A few creative youths are running activities as industry, should support them, Shetty added.

He distributed mini power tiller and weed removal machine to farmers, under the subsidy scheme of Agriculture Department.

APMC President Dhiru Shanbhag asked small farmers to be self- reliant through efficient agriculture. Forest Department should also not hinder farming activities, he said.

Progressive farmer Nityanand Naik Vannali observed that Agriculture Department lacks staff to guide farmers. More farmers should take part in study tours and Krishi Melas, while subsidy should be given to works like fencing.

Agriculture Department joint director Mahantesh also spoke. Taluk Panchayat member Anasuya Ambing, Agriculture Department Deputy Director T H Natarj, Horticulture Department  deputy director K P Chidambar, and others were present.
