Haliyal: “EID Party Sugar Mill of Haliyal should declare Rs 3,000 per tonne of sugarcane by November 15 or face agitation by farmers,” warned MLC S L Ghotnekar. At a meeting held at the tahsildar’s office on Wednesday. Taluk Cane Growers Association members promised cooperation to the mill management, if it agrees to their demand. Prakash, assistant vice-president of the mill, requested the farmers to ensure supply of cane till March-end. It was agreed in the meeting that ‘Lagani’ (wages of the cane-harvesting gangs) shall be taken care of by the mill. The management of the mill has agreed to release Rs 305 to farmers as balance per tonne of cane supplied last year. Tahsildar Gulguli, mill officials Divyaraj Pillai, Karwar ZP vice-president Santosh Renake and farmer leader Suresh Benachekar were present.
