Mangaluru: AICC Spokesperson Dr Amee Yajnik Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should give an explanation on the alleged kickbacks amounting to Rs 8,546 crores which e-commerce giant Amazon’s India legal counsellors had allegedly given to government officials.

Modi needs to break his silence on this issue at least in his Mann Ki Baat, she told reporters here.
The issue pertains to Amazon initiating an investigation into allegations that its legal representatives in India had bribed government officials.

The media also alleged that the legal fees paid to the outside lawyer was in part allegedly given as a bribe to government officials.

Yajnik also asked whether Modi will ask the US head of the government to initiate a bribery case against Amazon.

Yajnik said it was a shameful act and was a major scam and people have the right to know as to where this huge amount has gone.

She also sought an investigation into the allegations by a sitting Supreme Court judge and asked whether the fee was paid to change some policy to boost Amazon's business.

Yajnik alleged that about 14 crore people have lost employment in the last one year, but the company allegedly paid Rs 8,546 crore in legal fees.
