Mundgod: Around one quintal of plastic bags were confiscated from the shop vendors while raiding several shops in the town by a team of officials led by Tahsildar Ashok Gurani here at Mundgod.

Earlier, all shop vendors in the town were directed not to use banned plastic bags. However, the officials failed to make the town plastic free.

Following this, officials raided the shops in the areas around Basavana Bidi, Yellapur Road, Bankapur Road and surrounding places.

After confiscating the plastic bags from shopkeepers, the team led by tahsildar warned them of imposing fine if they violated the norms.

Tahsildar Ashok Gurani said, the raid was successful following support of Town Panchayat Chief Officer Sangana Basayya and his staff. If any shopkeepers continue to violate the orders on the use of plastic bags, then legal action would be taken against them, he added.
