Bhatkal: Three tourists were rescued by lifeguards from drowning while swimming here at Murdeshwar beach in Bhatkal taluk on 29th October, Sunday.
The rescued tourists were identified as Siddi Vinayak (21), Uday Kumar (24), residents of Gadag district and Vaibhav Gaonkar (21) of Ankola in Uttar Kannada district.
Sources informed that Siddi Vinayak and Uday Kumar had been to the Murdeshwar beach along with their friends, while Vaibhav Gaonkar had come separately. They went to play in the water and while playing, a heavy wave pulled them. A team of lifeguards observed this and immediately rushed to their rescue and were successful in bringing them to the shore.
The team of the lifeguard who saved them included Jairam Harikant, Subramanya Harikant, and Shashidar. Later, the tourists were taken for questioning to the police station after which they were let go.
Beach supervisor Narasimha Moger was also present on the occasion.
