Karwar: Civil rights activist and legal luminary Prashant Bhushan said the UPA government was corrupt and embroiled in several scams, but the current dispensation at the Centre is something more than that and becoming “threat to the country”.

At PS Kamat memorial district-level inter-collegiate debate competition at Divekar College of Commerce here on Saturday, he said the NDA government has no taint of any scam, but the corruption has not ended. The government has no will to stop it. It clearly reflected in the delay in appointment of Lokpal.

Corruption takes away the funds meant for public welfare. Bureaucrats frame policies of thousands of crores and they share the money with engineers and other officials. So bigger projects are not in public interest. They are in the interest of bureaucrats, contractors and big builders, he observed.

On controversy over AICC vice-president chief Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Somnath temple in Gujarat, Bhusan said the NDA government is more interested in fabricating news. He accused the Union Government of making attempts to saffronise the education system in the country.

“Those who are designing textbooks are of RSS background and the contents of the textbooks are against the minority community people,” he alleged.

Later speaking to reporters, Bhushan said corruption is spreading to judiciary and judicial system in the country.
