Karwar: In an unusual development, Dinakar Shetty, who was recently elected to the state assembly from Kumta-Honnavar constituency, held a meeting with Honnavar taluk panchayat staff on Friday even before taken oath as MLA. B S Yeddyurappa-led BJP government came to power in the state on Thursday despite opposition by the Congress and JD(S).

The apex court has ordered the government to go for a floor test on Saturday. But here, the newly-elected MLA was seen using his power at the taluk panchayat office. Shetty visited Honnavar taluk panchayat and held a meeting. It is said that the discussion was on development issues.

According to sources, he went to Honnavar to meet the BJP leaders and discuss about political scenario in the state. He also visited the TP on the occasion. Before taking oath as MLA, he should not have held meeting with the officials.

With this, Shetty violated the rules, sources added. Speaking to The New Indian Express, Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer L Chandrashekhar Naik confirmed that Shetty had held a general discussion at TP auditorium.

“The officials, who got confused when he entered, allowed him to hold a meeting. He was not supposed to hold such meeting before taking oath as MLA. He will be issued a notice,” Naik said.
