Bhatkal: The BJP workers, in Bhatkal constituency, are rejoicing as the party candidate has won here after a gap of nearly 10 years.

Union Minister Ananth kumar Hegde had endorsed a new face, young leader Sunil Naik in the constituency despite host of other aspirants trying hard for the party ticket. Hegde has been the main architect of BJP’s win in the constituency.

MLA Mankal Vaidya had thundered before the elections that not one, but event 10 Ananth Kumar Hegde would not be able to defeat him and ensure BJP’s victory in Bhatkal.

Hegde had taken this as a challenge, and has ensured BJP’s victory. He has put Mankal Vaidya in has place, by making it a point to participant in the celebrations in Bhatkal.

Likewise, Rahul Gandhi could not make much of an impression despite holding a road show here.

 Sunil Naik, who has won in his very first attempt, had earlier won the election held to the post of director in Primary Land Development (PLD) Bank.

Apart from this, he had no experience as far as electoral Politics was concerned. Many aspirants had expressed dismay over allotting the ticket to him.

Some had even worked against him in the elections. He, however, overcame all these obstacles and won from the constituency, much to the chagrin of opponents within and outside the party. It is interesting to note that no one has even been re-elected from this constituency after 1994.
