Mangaluru:  A complaint was filed against the co-owner of a Cricket Team in Mangaluru Premier League (MPL) Canute Fernandes for allegedly defaming a NRI woman on social media.

The complaint was filed by the woman after the co-owner of the team 'Maestro Titans' of MPL had shared a post on social media stating that she was involved in ‘blackmailing’ people for the purpose of earning money. Since he had tagged her in the post, it reached the close friends and relatives of the complainant.

According to the complaint filed, Canute had also mentioned that her husband was an alcoholic who had abandoned her when in reality, she did not have any marital problems. The woman has demanded strict action against the accused.

A case has been registered at Kadri police station and the hearing is scheduled later this week in the JMFC court.
