Karwar: Fearing Ockhi cyclone, hundreds of fishing boats from Uttara Kannada, Malpe, Mangaluru, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and other places anchored at Karwar coast on Saturday.

The Indian Meteorological Department had issued a warning to fishermen not to go for fishing from Friday to Monday or till further warning. There is a chance for forming of huge waves in the deep sea following Ockhi cyclone, which is heading towards the West coast from Lakshadweep.

On Saturday morning, fishing boats from various places, which were in deep sea, were returned to the coasts. More than 100 boats were anchored in Karwar, said an officer. “We have got information that the cyclone will not affect Karwar coast as it has changed its direction. But, it is not safe to venture into deep sea,” he added.
