Karwar: The issue of shortage of teachers at the government schools, in the district, echoed in the Zilla Panchayat general body meeting, that was held here, on Monday.

Raising the issue at the meeting, Zilla Panchayat Member Pushpa Naik said, shortage of teachers at several schools in the hilly areas of the district adversely affected the education of the children.

Plea in vain

The Education Department has been impressed upon, several times, to initiate appropriate measures to fill the vacant teachers’ posts.

However, till date no such action has been taken, she lamented, expressing her unhappiness over the complacency of the department officials.

Biased in appointments

She further charged that the Education Department was also being biased in its appointment of the teachers to the schools in the district.

Shortage of teachers at the school at Hadugeri village, located 40 km from Honnavar, was causing inconvenience to the students.

Though there are 31 additional teachers in the taluk, they are not being shifted to that school, the Zilla Panchayat member pointed out, expressing her displeasure over hapless state of affairs.

Temporary teachers

In his response, the department officials said, the teachers have been deployed temporarily at several schools which were facing the problem and measures would also be soon initiated to appoint the teachers at the school in Hadugeri as well, he assured.
