Yellapur: People usually stand in a queue to collect drinking water from taps or in front of fair price shops for their ration. But, in Yellapur town, they are queuing up in front of liquor shops, to purchase liquor.

Due to the model code of conduct in vogue for assembly elections, several liquor shops in the town are closed. Only two liquor shops, including one MSIL outlet, are open, as one bar and five liquor shops are shut. In order to purchase liquor there, people are standing in a queue. One has to wait for an hour to get liquor. As the supply of liquor to the outlets is limited, each customer does not get more than two bottles.

Tipplers are standing in a queue before the outlets open. Some wearing helmet or covering their face with a towel, to hide their identity. People are surprised that the town has so many liquor lovers.

Liquor shops are making brisk business on weekends and holidays.

With the enforcement of the model code of conduct, liquor supply in dhabas and hotels has been stopped. Supply to liquor shops is also regulated, which has created a shortage of liquor in the taluk
