Yallapur: The new bridge being constructed on Bedti river, in the taluk, is going on at a snail’s pace. The construction of the new bridge was commissioned in September 2016 when the old bridge near Manchikeri was damaged.

The construction of the bridge was taken up at a cost of Rs 14 crore under the Central Road Fund Scheme of Public Works Department. But the work did not begin due to technical reasons.

The bridge which is 170 metres long and 12 metres wide will have six huge pillars. The contract has been awarded to Hubballi’s BSG Company. Eighteen months was availed to complete the work. But till now only pillars have been erected, say citizens.

The old bridge is in dilapidated state and as vehicles ply on the bridge, there is fear of the bridge collapsing.

The officials concerned should look into the delay in order avoid untoward incidents, they said.
