Karwar: The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board officials visited Kadra, in Karwar taluk, on Sunday, where hydrochloric acid had leaked.

After testing the water of the two wells of the Gram Panchayat, officials gave a report stating that the water of the wells was safe and potable.

Assistant Commissioner Abhijin B, in a release issued here, said water sample of the wells was sent to the laboratory for testing after the acid leaked. People of the village were instructed not to use water of the wells until the laboratory report came out. The report confirmed that the water potable, the assistant commissioner stated.

A tanker which was carrying the acid towards Kaiga had stuck in the bog in the village on Wednesday.

The acid had leaked from the tanker after a valve of the tanker was damaged while the tanker was being lifted from the bog using an earth mover.

The marine life in the nearby tank had died after the acid mixed with the water. It had led to panic among the villagers.
