Bhatkal: Due to a 110kV line jumper being cut in Chippihakkal, located between Kumta and Honnavar, both Honnavar and Bhatkal plunged into darkness, causing severe inconveniences for the residents.

The power outage, which began around 8 o'clock on Tuesday evening, particularly affected the fasting individuals heading for Taraweeh prayers, a special prayer performed during the holy month of Ramadan.

In mosques lacking generator or inverter facilities, Muslims were forced to perform the Isha and Taraweeh prayers amidst the intense heat.

Hescom's Bhatkal Assistant Engineer, Manjunath, stated that the jumper cut occurred in Chippihakkal, and repair efforts commenced immediately. He anticipated that the power supply would be restored by 11:30 pm. He also noted that the electricity disruption affected both Bhatkal and Honnavar.

Engineer Manjunath has requested the public's cooperation during this period.
