Ghastly accident between private bus and lorry near Yellapur, 31 hurt

Karwar: As many as 31 people including drivers of both lorry and bus were injured after an head-on collision near Bisagoda cross in Yellapur taluk on the midnight of Sunday, 19th November.

It is said that the incident happened when a private luxury bus was on the way to Mangaluru from Hubli, while the lorry was approaching in the opposite direction. Both had a head-on collision, causing injuries to 31 people. The injured were immediately rushed to Yellapur govt hospital for first aid, while some of them who sustained severe injuries were shifted to KIMS hospital Hubli, SDM hospital Dharwad and KLE hospital in Belgaum for further treatment.

The injured were identified as bus driver Udaya Shankar Modaliyar (21), lorry driver Ramu (46), Raghotamma Gopal Acharya (70), Shaukat Shamsuddin, Kerala (28), Annaporna Kuruvattappa Guttal (61), Rekha Dinesh,(62), Chandrakala Nayak (23), Lokanath Dinesh Pujari (61) and Reetu Lokanath Pujari (25) All from Dharwad and  Vinaya Yashoda Kotyan,(49), Medha Vinayak Hegde (31), Krathika Suresh Rao (19), Aishwarya Amul Patnekar (47), Shambavi Shekar Shetty (65), Keerthana Ramesh Bhat (26), Pangal Ashok Shetty (58), Asha John Peter (50),  John Peter (55), Prateek John Peter (20), , Indira Lokanath Pujari (52), Sheetal Gaonkar (52), B.R Nanda Rahhottam (61), Vinayak Shreepad Hegde (31), Raju Kottappa Angadi (51), Ashok Rajendrappa (24) and Santal Araman (27) from Belgaum, Hubli and Dandelli.

There was a long distance of traffic jam from both the sides on the route soon after the accident, later the police personnel rushed to the spot and were successful in clearing the traffic.

Both the vehicles were completely damaged due to the impact of the collision. A case has been registered against Bus driver as well as the lorry driver in Yellapur police station.
