Karwar (ENS): Thousands of youths, including students, took part in a procession with a one-kilometre-long national flag in Karwar on Friday.
The National Students Union of India (NSUI) organised the procession which was flagged off by district in-charge minister R V Deshpande at Maladevi ground. Nearly 5,000 youths were part of the procession which passed through the main roads of the city.
NSUI leader Siddharth Madhav Naik said people are more worried about their castes and communities. A few villages and towns in the district witnessed communal violence.
The union came up with the tricolour rally to inculcate patriotism in youths, he said.
Students of St Joseph College, St Michel College, Hindu High School, Bala Mandir School, Government Arts and Science College, Government Polytechnic College and other schools and colleges, their parents and teachers carried the flag. Onlookers encouraged the rally and chanted patriotic slogans throughout the procession route.
