Bhatkal: The body of a 50-year-old man was discovered hanging from a tree in Asarkeri, within the taluk, in what is suspected to be a case of suicide. The deceased was identified as Malliappa, hailing from Vijayapura. The incident came to light on Sunday afternoon.

Malliappa, who is believed to have been mentally unstable, reportedly used a lungi to hang himself from a tree situated on private property in Asarkeri.

Upon noticing the body, local residents promptly notified the police, who then transferred the body to the mortuary at Bhatkal Government Hospital.

A case has been registered at Bhatkal town police station.
