Karnataka Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan Receives Lokayukta Notice in Disproportionate Assets Case Amid 'Kariya' Controversy

Mangaluru: Karnataka Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan on Saturday said the Lokayukta police probing the disproportionate assets case against him has issued notice to him to appear on December 3.

The minister told PTI that the Enforcement Directorate carried out a raid against him in connection with the disproportionate assets. Later, the ED transferred the matter to the Anti-Corruption Bureau for further investigation.

The ACB handed over the case to the Lokayukta for further probe, which has now served him a notice, Khan said.

"It's a routine notice. There's nothing new in it," he said.

While probing the IMA Ponzi scam, the ED had raided Khan way back in August 2021, sources said.

The ED later shared some material pertaining to the disproportionate assets case with the ACB. After the ACB became defunct, the case was transferred to the Lokayukta to investigate it further, they said.

Zameer Ahmed Khan landed in trouble and faced the music after referring to Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy as ‘kaalia,’ which the NDA slammed as a ‘racist’ slur.

Speaking during an election campaign in the bypoll-bound Channapatna on Sunday night, Zameer said: “He (Yogeshwar) left our party due to some differences. He went to BSP, was an independent and joined the BJP because he had no option. He didn’t want to join JD(S) since he knew that Kaalia Kumaraswamy was more dangerous than BJP. He has come back to his home (Congress).”
