Bhatkal: Bhatkal Jali Patan Panchayat Councilor, Misbah-ul-Haq, has accused three officials of a UGD (Under Ground Drainage) Contracting Company of attempting to mount an excavator on him and trying to cause him harm. Fortunately, due to the prompt intervention of local residents, their malicious attempt was thwarted. Misbah-ul-Haq, along with fellow panchayat members and locals, has filed a formal complaint against the supervisor of the contracting company, the site engineer, and the excavator operator at the Bhatkal rural police station, urging legal action and their subsequent arrest.
Misbah-ul-Haq further alleged that the UGD Contracting Company officials consistently disregard standard operating procedures when transporting the excavator for UGD-related work, leading to significant damage to the roads. According to the proper procedure outlined by Misbah, whenever an excavator is moved, it is essential to use mats or old tires to protect the roads.
Despite issuing three warnings and levying fines for non-compliance, the Jali Panchayat had previously obtained a written assurance from the contractors, emphasizing adherence to the prescribed procedures for moving the excavator. However, on October 13, around 11 o'clock at night, these individuals still drove the excavator on the concrete road, violating the agreements.
Misbah narrated the incident, stating that upon hearing the excavator on the road near Hurlisal, he intervened and halted its progress. Subsequently, a confrontation occurred with the supervisor and site engineer. Misbah asserted his objections to their actions, triggering a heated exchange. The supervisor allegedly ordered the excavator operator to mount the machine on him, expressing intentions to harm him. Quick action by Misbah and the timely arrival of concerned citizens deterred the perilous attempt.
Misbah-ul-Haq promptly dialed 112, seeking police assistance. In response, the culprits fled upon realizing that the police were being called. The police promptly arrived at the scene, conducted an inspection, and registered a case against the three UGD Contracting Company officials the following morning.
Speaking to the press, Mohammad Taufiq Beary, a councilor, emphasized that UGD contracting personnel consistently flout prescribed procedures and resort to violence when confronted by councilors in the course of their duties. He condemned such actions, urging appropriate action against the UGD officials involved. Bhatkal Rural Police Inspector Gopal Chandan confirmed the registration of an FIR and the ongoing investigation, assuring that necessary actions would be taken in accordance with the law. The UGD officials have been instructed to bring the relevant excavator to the police station for further investigation.
