Bhatkal: A Bangalore college student drowned in the Arabian Sea in Murdeshwar, while another student was rescued. The incident occurred on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Gautam K.V., 17 years old, and the rescued student as Dhanush.
According to sources, 220 students from Bangalore's Vidya Soudha PU College, Jalahalli Cross, had arrived at Murdeshwar Beach for a trip on Sunday morning. Since entry into the Arabian Sea near the temple is prohibited, the group went about 1.5 kilometers away to avoid police attention and entered the water for a swim. During this time, two students were caught by strong sea waves. One was rescued, but the other drowned and went missing.
About an hour and a half later, the incident was reported to the lifeguard team. They immediately launched a search operation and recovered the body of the drowned student from the Arabian Sea. Lifeguards Siddharth, Lohith, and Chandrashekhar were present during the rescue operation.
A case has been registered at the Murdeshwar police station, and the body has been sent to Bhatkal Government Hospital for post-mortem. Police confirmed that the deceased student, Gautam, was in the second year of PU. His family has been informed, and the post-mortem will be conducted once they arrive in Bhatkal.
