Bhatkal: A tourist from Bengaluru was rescued by lifeguards while drowning in the Arabian Sea at Murdeshwar on Sunday morning. The incident occurred during a holiday visit, with quick action from local lifeguards preventing a tragedy.
The tourist, identified as 19-year-old Puneet K., had traveled to Murdeshwar with four friends. While swimming in the sea, he was caught by high waves. Fortunately, lifeguard personnel swiftly launched a rescue operation and managed to save him.
Sources confirmed that lifeguards Shekhar Devadiga, Giri Harikant, and Lohit Harikant were instrumental in the rescue. Local fishermen, Gundu Harikant and Santosh Harikant, also provided crucial assistance using their boats.
It is important to note that the coastal region of Karnataka has been experiencing heavy rainfall over the past several days. The Meteorological Department has forecasted continued rain for the coming week. The turbulent sea conditions during this period make swimming extremely dangerous. Lifeguards have repeatedly warned tourists and locals to avoid entering the water during such times, as it poses a serious risk to life.
