Bhatkal: A delegation from the 'Sarabi River Horata Samiti, actively working to address issues faced by residents in the low-lying areas of Bhatkal, including concerns regarding the drainage pumping station at Ghausia Street and the pollution of the historic Sarabi River, met with Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner (AC) Dr. Naina to draw attention to the current condition of the river.

The committee, which had previously submitted a memorandum to her assistant during a protest rally due to her absence, reiterated their concerns to the AC, emphasizing the urgent need to remove mud and debris from the Sarabi River to enhance its cleanliness and depth. They also voiced opposition to the proposed plan to divert dirty water from the upper area, including Shamsuddin Circle, to the lower area and the Ghausia Street Pumping Station.

In response, the AC informed the delegation that a committee of technical experts has been established to assess the capacity of the Ghausia Street wet well and potential damage from diverting water to the low-lying area. The committee will submit its report within one and a half weeks, following which appropriate action will be taken.

The delegation stressed to the AC that diverting more wastewater to the low-lying area and Ghausia Street would exacerbate the situation and exceed the endurance of residents. They urged the AC to personally visit Ghausia Street and the Daranta area to assess the situation and take corrective measures.

Acknowledging the delegation's concerns, the AC assured them that she would accompany the TMC Chief Officer to the relevant locations within a few days to review the situation and take necessary actions.

Members of the delegation from the Horata Samiti included Anjum Gangawali Nadvi, Dr. Mohammed Hanif Shabab, Abdul Sami Medical, KM Ashfaq, Muhammad Hussain, Mustafa Askiri, Shamoun Haji Faqih, Mubashir Hallare, Maulana Irshad Nadvi, and others.
