New Delhi: In a tragic incident on Wednesday morning, a car in the motorcade of BJP Lok Sabha election candidate Karan Bhushan Singh struck and killed two boys in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district. According to media reports, the deceased have been identified as Rehan (17) and Shahzade (24), while one person is injured and has been admitted to the hospital.
Karan Bhushan Singh, the son of controversial politician Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, is contesting from the Kaiserganj Lok Sabha constituency on a BJP ticket. His father is the incumbent MP for the seat.
According to media reports, quoting an FIR complaint by Chanda Begum, the incident occurred around 9 am near Baikunth Degree College on Colonelganj-Huzurpur Road. Her 17-year-old son, Rehan, and 24-year-old nephew, Shahzade, were riding a motorcycle when they were struck by a speeding SUV from the opposite direction. Both died on the spot, while another person was critically injured and has been admitted to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported that the convoy was en route to Huzurpur when the accident occurred. There are conflicting reports about Karan Bhushan Singh's presence in the vehicle; a UP police source claimed he was in the car but not driving, while it remains unconfirmed if he was part of the convoy at the time of the accident.
The driver of the vehicle has been apprehended, and the police have impounded the SUV, which is reportedly registered under an entity owned by the former Wrestling Federation of India chief's family. Agitated locals have blocked the road, demanding accountability for the incident, leading to a heavy police presence at the scene.
This incident has sparked outrage among the Opposition and local residents, highlighting concerns over road safety and the conduct of political convoys during election campaigns.
