Bhatkal: The monsoon has hit coastal Karnataka, including Bhatkal, since Friday, June 7. Heavy rains have commenced in Mangalore, Udupi, Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kumta, and Ankola. According to information received from Karwar, there has been light rain.
In some areas, including Mangalore, the rain started on Thursday night, while in Bhatkal, the rain began at midnight and intensified in the morning. During Friday prayers, the rain was so heavy that people had a hard time attending Juma prayers. However, the positive aspect was that despite the heavy rain, no waterlogging was reported.
As soon as the rain subsided in Bhatkal, at Ranginkatta National Highway and Shamsuddin Circle—areas usually prone to waterlogging—the water disappeared from the roads once the rain stopped or slowed down. In Marikatta and on the Main Road, the water also drained quickly after the rain ceased. The residents of Bhatkal have praised the taluk administration and municipal authorities for their proactive measures, including pre-monsoon drain cleaning, which prevented water from stagnating on the roads or the highway.
